A calm place for a proper cup. This is where I go when I want single-origin filter coffee rather than the usual americano.
Korean specialty coffee, briefly
Seoul has an unusually deep specialty coffee scene — small independent roasters everywhere, brewing single-origin beans by hand. If your idea of Korean coffee is a chain iced americano, this is the other end of it.
This is one of those places: a short bean list, filter brewed to order, and beans roasted for you to take home.
The way it arrives is the point
The coffee comes in a stemmed tulip glass on a walnut tray, with the remainder in a small steel kettle beside it and a card describing the day's beans.
This isn't just presentation. The narrow glass concentrates the aroma, and filter coffee changes noticeably as it cools — fruit acidity forward when hot, sweeter and rounder as it drops. Pouring from the kettle in stages lets you actually taste that arc.
So treat it as a cup to sit with, not something to take away.
Pick your time — this matters
Being straight with you: the room is small, and this is an office district.
- Weekday lunch and afternoon — fills with people working nearby. Not a quiet spot for one
- Weekends — reported as noticeably calmer. This is when to come if you want to linger
It is not a laptop cafe. Come for one good cup, then move on.
Where it is
The address is 134 Tongil-ro, Jongno-gu. It sits near the site of Donuimun, the old west gate of the city, and is a short walk from Seodaemun Station (Line 5).
It fits neatly into a walk around Donuimun Museum Village and Gyeonghuigung Palace — a reasonable coffee stop in the middle of that route, away from the Insadong and Bukchon crowds.
Set expectations honestly
The Google rating is 4.7, but that is from three reviews. The shop opened only a few months ago, so there isn't a real track record yet. Don't read that number as "verified."
I could not confirm prices. Specialty filter coffee in Seoul generally runs above chain-cafe prices, so budget accordingly.
Practical notes
- Payment — card is standard everywhere in Seoul, including small cafes
- Ordering — a short menu; pointing at the bean list works
- Takeaway — possible, but the tray service is the reason to come, so drink in if you can
